A Bible Verse?

I'm looking for a bible verse that I heard when I first became a Christian in 1993. I have no memory of what book it is in, and for that matter, maybe I was just listening to a commentary on the subject, and have sense forgotten. But I thought there was a verse that proved that ghosts are not real, stating "...the dead to not come back." I'm sure it mentioned with the exception of ressurection, and of course there were many ressurections during Jesus' time on earth. My purpose in finding this verse is to help find proof that there are no ghosts---that the "spirits" of this world that haunt or even come back as friendly and often familiar faces, are simply demons. Because if scripture does teach against "ghosts" --- and I do say "if" because like I said, I cannot find this verse anywhere, then it would make sense that any contradictions to scripture are spawned by evil.

A Bible Verse?
I don't know of a Bible verse that specifically says what you said.

You do know in the Bible when Jesus came walking on the water they were afraid because they thought he was a ghost. That is not saying they do or don't exist it is just saying they thought it was possible.

There is not a time in the Bible when a human spirit comes back to freely talk with people.

1 Samuel Chapter 28 King Saul goes to a witch to contact the spirit of Samuel.

People are not going to have a spirit guide as some claim that is a dead relative.

If God would allow the spirit of a dead person to return it would be for a short while for a message.

Places people say are haunted I have always felt were demonic spirits. Often what people call ghosts are demons.

There is a well know doctor in a neighboring town. He tells the story of a poltergeist coming in the room and literally throwing things. Appearing to his son in the form of a long haired man. This thing has terrified their family.

I know a woman who saw the figure of a man that had killed himself in her house. He came to her and laughed out loud at her, terrifying her to the point she fainted.

Her story I found out later she had been playing with the devil using an Ouija board. Demons can take on human forms.

There are only two kinds of spirits. Either fron God or from the devil.

When you hear of ghost stories try to understand or figure out what is behind it. Often people are involved in the occult in some kind of way. Or an extreme evil is present in that place. Listen if anything horrible has ever happened in that area.

I am sure you have heard the story of the Amnityville Horrors, it's been made into a movie serval times. But the man who killed his family in that home said something had control of him and he could not stop hisself. I believe is Demonic possession. Many families have reported very eris and strange things happening in that home since.

Know that the devil himself can transform into an angel of light.

I feel very strongly about this subject. I don't have many answers nor am I supersticious. But the powers of heaven and hell are real.

I have heard many stories about "ghosts". There are as many around my hometown as any other kind of story. Only four different occasions have the stories ever been good as to where a Godly message has come from them. The rest have a darkness about them that leads me to believe even more strongly that they are demonic spirits.

I know I have not answered your question. Because I have asking the same question myself. (Not on here) I have a good theroy but no scriptural answers exactly.
Reply:You should buy a bible with a concordance at the back of it.King James version with golden edge has this. You can easily get the bible verse once you look into it.
Reply:If you can believe in god, why not ghosts and demons?
Reply:It's not true pal, unless you really want to believe and ignore the reality.
Reply:You would denounce the existence of ghosts based on the Bible and then at the same time assert that demons are real based on the same thing? How about...neither are real. Aside from some well put together (and not so well put together) 'Unsolved Mysteries' shows...do you have any evidence to suggest that either are real?
Reply:I can't find the exact one but I can find some that parallel what you are saying. This suggests they aren't roaming around, haunting , and unsettled.. they "know" nothing, their PLANS come to an end.

Psalm 146:4 (KJV) says, "When their spirit departs, they return to the ground; on that very day their plans come to nothing." The dead do not praise God, Psalm 115:17. The dead do not know anything, Ecclesiastes 9:5, "For the living know that they will die, but the dead know nothing."

Hope this helps in some way:)
Reply:Tootsie has the right answer. Pick her answer as the best answer. It's what I would have put.
Reply:Actually, there are several verses in the Bible that let us know that the dead do not come back to haunt us; that they are merely sleeping in the ground until the second coming of Christ. Here are a few:

Ecclesiastes 9:5

For the living know that they shall die, but the dead know not any thing, neither have they any more reward; for the memory of them is forgotten.

1 Thesselonians 4:13-18

But I would not have you be ignorant, brethren, concerning them which are asleep, that ye sorrow not, even as others which have no hope.

14 For if we believe that Jesus died and rose again, even so them also which sleep in Jesus will God bring with him.

15 For this we say unto you by the word of the Lord, that we which are alive and remain unto the coming of the Lord shall not prevent them which are asleep.

16 For the Lord himself shall descend from heaven with a shout, with the voice of the archangel, and with the trump of God: and the dead in Christ shall rise first:

17 Then we which are alive and remain shall be caught up together with them in the clouds, to meet the Lord in the air: and so shall we ever be with the Lord.

18 Wherefore comfort one another with these words.

In just these two verses alone, we can see that the dead are just in the ground, asleep. They have no thoughts, and they won't leave the ground until the second coming of Christ, when those who have accepted Jesus shall rise.

Other verses include:

Pslams 115:17

The dead praise not the Lord neither any that go down into silence.

Again, the dead are silent in their graves.

Also, even Jesus referred to death as a "sleep."

Matthew 9:24

He said to them, "Give place: for the maidis not dead, but sleepeth."

John 11:11

These things said he: and after that he saith unto them, Our friend Lazarus sleepeth; but I go, that I may awake him out of sleep.

Death is just like taking a little nap. Dead people are asleep in the ground. They can't move, talk, and have no knowledge of anything. The only way a person that is dead can come out of the ground is at the second coming of Christ, when He shall awaken them.

I agree with you that the "ghosts" that people see are nothing more than demons trying to deceive us.

I hope this helps! God bless!
